You know those days where you wake up feeling sluggish–you feel the weight of your body, a slight headache coming on at the back of your eyes, overwhelmed with the thought of the days’ tasks, and all you want to do is hit snooze and disappear under your bed covers forever?
Yeah, I know you know what I’m talking about.
I’d like to share with you some secrets that I know about and continue to cultivate in my own life that make a big difference!. These 5 secrets should not remain secrets–I want you to share them with everyone! Please hit the SHARE button at the bottom of this post!
As I practice these tactics, I wake each day feeling energized, directed, on a clear path, and excited for my day!
Wouldn’t that be great if you could go from sluggish to superstar in literally 1 day? I’m telling you–it’s possible! So let the secrets be revealed!
Get that H2O in your body–after sleeping, your body is dehydrated! You need to flush it and give it some fuel to get its bodily processes moving again. Not only that, but cold water has been shown to be more effective than caffeine in the morning!
With protein and fats, your blood sugar will stabilize, you’ll feel full and powered up in your brain. Adding vegetables will get vitamins and minerals surging in your body and a little fruit will provide just enough sugar (fructose) that you smile with its sweetness. Try one of my favorite breakfasts: 1 large egg scrambled with 3 large egg whites. Mix in a handful of spinach and 1/4 c. chopped bell peppers. Season with sea salt and oregano. Serve with 1-2 oz. avocado and a 1/2 c. blueberries. Yummy!
2. Spend the first 30 minutes of the day in positive study and gratitude.
Many of my business and life mentors have talked about the power of the first 30-60 minutes of the day. Upon further research, I learned that there are nodes in the brain that activate on a particular strand of thought in that first 30 minutes. If you think positively, your day will begin (and hopefully carry on) on a positive note. If you think negatively, your day will follow suit, and you will be the living reality of “waking up on the wrong side of the bed.”
I began testing this principle out in late June 2016 with a Power Hour each morning. This involved scripture study, prayer/meditation, journaling, and mental discipline activities. I transitioned to doing half before and half after my early morning training (I go between 5 and 5:30 a.m.) and I’m really liking this approach for my lifestyle. While I know not everyone can spend as much time as I commit to it, the principle will be effective in any effort! Drop to your knees and have a prayer of gratitude. Force your brain to positive thoughts for at least 30 minutes just to test this principle out. . . I have had so many clients text me out of sheer SHOCK when they tested it. (Apparently, it works *wink wink*).
3. Write out your “Top 3” list before going to bed each night.
I love conversations with my Mom, 1 of about 3 people I vent my real-life frustrations to. Instead of droning on and on, I’ve learned to have very productive conversations with her. She makes great effort to live her life on a high energy point like I do, so our conversations are never filled with complaining, but more of stating facts, emotions around it, then brainstorming solutions.
I recall a few months ago when I described to her my feeling of “overwhelm” I was experiencing immediately upon waking. I didn’t like that feeling of suffocation, so she suggested I write out my “Top 3” the night before so I could focus my mind not on the massive list of to-dos and to-be-theres, but the Top 3 important things. Less brain power, more focus. This immediately reminded me of Brian Tracy’s “Eat the Big Frog First!” which I have tried to follow since learning about it a few years ago.
Writing out my Top 3 each night before bed clears my mind so I can sleep easily, knowing that nothing will be forgotten as it’s on my list, organized, and the Top 3 of my priority list is on a post-it note to be seen when I wake. This has been a game-changer in waking up with a smile instead of a groan each day!
4. Connect with your body for 7 minutes each day in the morning.
Even if you cannot do your full workout, 7 minutes should be doable. Hit each muscle group, get your heart rate up, and allow blood flow and oxygen to get you yelling “Oh what a beautiful morning!”

5. Stop your screen time at least 30 minutes before bed.
We all have smart phones, tablets, and TVs that are around us everywhere we go! However, many experts are talking about how the screen time right before bed impacts REM cycle sleep patterns, which means you’re not getting the most quality sleep you could be getting! When your sleep is good, your body functions better as a whole! Put your phone away, connect with your spouse, family, or just spend time reading a good book (yep, the old fashioned way!) to help you go from sluggish to superstar!
With these 5 simple tips, you will feel a big difference in your morning! No more dragging and feeling like you’re barely hanging in. . . get after it! I know you can do it!
